Can AI Understand Emotions and Use Humor?

To answer the question “can AI understand emotions?”, we need to first clarify what emotions are. Then let’s start from the origin of the word “emotions”! It comes from the Latin word “e-moveo,” meaning literally “to move toward,” “to feel an attraction toward something.”

It is able to read a conversation or listen to a speech and detect emotions by analyzing words, texts, and voice inflections that may imply certain emotions. It is also able to detect and analyze facial, even very rapid micro expressions, which the human eye would not be able to pick up, and link them to specific emotional states. 

Can AI understand human emotions?

We often hear questions like “can AI learn to understand emotions?”, or “can AI understand and use humor?”.
University studies and research have found that the leading Emotion AI solutions on the market today can detect the emotions of humans with an accuracy level of around 80%. Of course, this level may vary depending on the technologies and solutions used.
